Multimedia immersive art installation at Tate Britain for their Late at Tate events in partnership with Reprezent Radio.
Entitled STILL LIVE - the installation explored the idea of applying fiction to the 'Still Life' format, traditionally perceived as a true representation of reality.
The installation consisted of 6 plinths, flanked by 3 video monitors and a large scale projection at the end of the space. The plinths housed a collection of carefully selected found objects, which had been repainted into a limited primary colours palette. The kitsch collections were intended to peak the viewer’s curiosity and invite them to form narratives and conclusions about the relevance of these surreal assortments.
The large projection depicted characters disguised in fabric and was shot in slow-motion to create a mysteriously playful yet blissed-out focal point. This video was an acknowledgement to my personal work as an artist over the years; a recurring aesthetic since my time at Winchester School of Art, in which I developed collage pieces using vintage model photography and masked them using flat mixed materials to create an otherworldly atmosphere.
The second half of the installation was an interactive Hyper-Reality Life Drawing session for the event, inviting participants to draw what they saw through the disruption, interruption and distortion of the projected life drawing models on screen. The aim was to frustrate the participant as the subject became more and more entangled in unnecessary and kitsch, layered visuals.
